Abstract

How might youth participatory action research (YPAR) foster more positive intercultural relations between Black and Latino/a students in urban schools?  Drawing upon critical, social justice-oriented research in education, several YPAR studies are presented to explore to what degree they address issues of intercultural relations, increase critical consciousness, confront deficit ideology, and foster empowerment among youth participants.  Implications are discussed for future research in this area.
