Abstract

Author Ta-Nehisi Coates has written a poetical polemic in the form of a letter to his young son. It is an autobiographical account of Coates' coming of age in Baltimore, his life at Howard University, and in New York City.  At once moving and confrontational, Coates describes "those people who think they are white" and the African American legacy of the struggle for freedom.
