Abstract

Professor Hugo Fernandez discusses his discovery of a body of photographs documenting the Black Theater.  His research leads him to the story of an African American photographer who dedicated his life to preserving the history of the Black Theater, overcoming professional tragedy, publishing a compilation of the work before his untimely death.

Author Biography

Hugo Fernandez, LaGuardia Community College

Hugo Fernandez is a Professor of Photography and Fine Arts at LaGuardia Community College.  He has an MFA in Fine Art Photography from the Yale School of Art, a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Florida International Univsersity, and an AA in Communications from Miami Dade Community College.
